Example situation: You are trying to run 30 copies of cardstock through the bypass tray. You select print on your computer and the printer starts beeping at you. You go to the printer and the red light is on beside the printer button. You press the printer button and it you see a message that says, "The paper type is mismatched. Select another tray and continue." You select the bypass tray, it prints one copy instead of 30. AAAUUUGGGHHH!

The Problem: The paper type and tray on the computer do not match the paper type and tray on your printer.

The Solution: Match the paper type and tray on the computer to the one on the printer.

For normal everyday printing to 8.5x 11 regular paper, the settings should be as follows:

On your computer, after you click print, go to the printer properties. Select the paper tab. Your computer should be set to auto select for the input tray and plain and recycled for the paper type.

For special paper types, i.e. cardstock, labels, photo paper, etc, follow the instructions below. We suggest that you use the bypass tray when copying on 80 lb cardstock, 110 lb cover, photo paper, labels, etc

To temporarily change the paper type for the bypass tray:

Add paper to the bypass tray or press the bypass tray button on your screen.
Push the # key
Some copiers will give the option to select thick paper on the right of the screen under special paper.
Others will have an option to select the paper type at the bottom fo the screen. From there you will have the option to select transparencies, thin paper, thick paper 1, thick paper 2 and thick paper 3. Select thick paper 2 unless you are using thick glossy paper, in which case you would select thick paper 3.

Go to your computer, press print, and go into the printer properties. Select the paper tab. Choose the bypass tray and select the same type of paper you selected on your copier.

To change the paper type for the other trays, or set for long term usage for the bypass tray:

Push the User Tools/Counter button at the left of the screen
Select Sytem Settings on the screen
Select tray paper settings tab
Push the Next button on the lower right of the screen
Select Bypass tray
Choose your paper type (glossy photo paper will be thick paper 3)
Select Ok and exit out of the next two screens.

Go to your computer, press print, and go into the printer properties. Select the paper tab. Choose the bypass tray and select the same type of paper you selected on your copier.

When you are done be sure to go back and change the printer settings back to "no display" for trays 1-3. Change your computer back to auto select for the input tray and plain and recycled for the paper type.
